Recipe : Poppy Seed Bread

I haven’t uploaded a recipe in such a long time, so I decided to share another of my all time favorites, Poppy Seed Bread. My mother baked this a lot when I was growing up, and I still love and bake it to this day! It’s yummy no matter what time of year, with or without the glaze, and continues to be a staple in my kitchen.

What’s even better about this Poppy Seed Bread is that it’s a very simple recipe, involving all the ingredients in only one bowl. You know how much I love easy recipes! And you probably own all or most of the ingredients in your cupboard already! The only thing that is a bit tricky to find is Butter Extract. I had to go to four different groceries stores to track it down, (would you believe one store had Root Beer extract and not Butter Extract?), until finally finding it at Giant. But don’t let that deter you, as this moist and soft Poppy Seed Bread is well worth the effort. Plus, you can always save yourself the trip and buy Butter Extract from Amazon.

I have to admit, I’ve never even baked the Poppy Seed Bread with the glaze, as my family always loved the bread plain–it’s delicious just on its own! But I’ve included the recipe for it  just in case! As a fan of all things lemon flavored, I’ve considered experimenting with the glaze and trying it with lemon juice instead of orange juice sometime. Serves: 2 loaves or 1 bundt cake
This Poppy Seed Bread is a delight all year long–with or without the glaze.
Ingredients
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 cups oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. poppy seed
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 1/2 butter extract
  • For Optional Glaze
  • 1 1/12 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp. butter extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
Instructions
  1. Mix ingredients together and beat for 2 mins.
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 mins to 1 hour.
  3. For Optional Glaze
  4. *Heat until sugar turns to syrup, pour over bread.
