Whenever I need a bit of a feel-good pick me-up story, I reach for a T. Kingfisher work—even if it’s horror. I just love the originality and eccentricity of her stories and Illuminations is no exception to this rule. Illuminations follows the youngest daughter, Rosa, of one of the most well-known and famous illuminator families. Illuminations are magically imbued drawings that serve specific purposes, like a drawing of a cat […]
Ashes of the Sun is the first book I’ve read by Django Wexler, though admittedly I own another of his novels and just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet–famous last words. I must say that I really enjoyed Ashes of the Sun. The characters were well developed, there was diversity, creepy villains, and plenty of world-building. I also loved the conflict between brother and sister and their ideals, something […]
The Priory of the Orange Tree is an absolutely phenomenal read. It has everything a reader could want—powerful and diverse female characters, the best LGBTQ romance I have read, EVER, great friendships, interesting religion, pirates, alchemists, world-building, secret organizations, and DRAGONS (both good and evil). Many books nowadays claim to be “the new A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones),” but I have never had the pleasure of […]

I was afraid it would be another over-hyped YA fantasy novel that actually was not any good when I finally got around to reading it. Thankfully, however, that was not the case with Serpent & Dove at all. I was surprised to find a strong-willed heroine who was witty, resourceful, and […]
I was pleasantly surprised by A Promise of Fire. There’s a lot to like in this romance fantasy novel–a strong heroine named Cat with powerful and unique magical abilities, Greek Gods, interesting world-building, and a mostly likable romance. I found A Promise of Fire to be one of the best fantasy romance novels I have read yet, despite its somewhat lacking character development and unbelievable magic at times and predictability […]
