The Gamer Tag

The Gamer Tag

I recently came across The Gamer Tag on Moon Dreams and even though I’m probably super late to this tag, I thought it would be fun for a Friday post and for you guys to get to know me a little better!

1. What is your all-time favorite video game?

Spyro, whether the originals or The Reignited Trilogy. I’m also a huge fan of the Bioshock series, but since I don’t snap up merch for that, I’ll stick with Spyro as my answer 🙂 Plus, Spyro made a very big impression on me at a young age and I played it so many times that I even had the levels memorized. To this day, I typically still know what exactly to do on every level.

2. What is your current favorite video game?

Persona 5 Royal! I just finished platinuming the game and absolutely adored the game, its characters, storyline, and gameplay.

3. What is your favorite video game genre?

Definitely RPG–whether western or Japanese. I also love horror games like Resident Evil even though I’m a complete weenie.

4. How long have you been playing video games?

I started when I was really young, like 3 or 4. So roughly 27 years.

5. What’s the first game you ever played?

I believe it was Blaster Master for the NES.

6. What game have you clocked the most hours into?

Fire Emblem : Three Houses and Breath of the Wild. I believe I have around 200 hours in each of those games. Persona 5R  is not far behind.

7. What’s your longest gaming session?

I’m sure I’ve hit at least 7 hours in the past playing Elder Scrolls Online (especially during the Elsweyr expansion, cuz dragons) or Overwatch with friends.

8. Who is your favorite game developer?

It used to be Square Enix, without a doubt, but after my overwhelming disappointment with Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 I can no longer say that with any assurance. So for now, I’ll go with Atlus or Team Ico (which I think is actually defunct now), or Namco Bandai for Tales of games.

9. Who is your favorite hero character from a game?

This is such a hard question, because I form such strong attachments to characters, whether they’re in video games, books, or movies. I’ve managed to narrow it down to four, even though my brain is shouting all these other characters at me.

So undoubtedly, Spyro is my all time favorite video game character! I love his snarky, confident attitude and his ability to get things done, despite not being a full grown dragon!  I also truly love Aerith Gainsborough from Final Fantasy VII–her sass, fun-loving nature, and kindness really endear her to me.

Honorable mentions : Aloy and Lara Croft from the reboot.

10. Who is your favorite villain?

These are not necessarily villains, but morally gray characters whom I absolutely adore (probably even more than the protagonists of the game) are Goro Akechi, Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, and Edelgard von Hresvelg.

11. Who is your most hated character of any game?

I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but I really did not like Tifa Lockhart in the original Final Fantasy VII game or in the compilation. I really wish she would have spoken up aboutView Spoiler » and had been a little less jealous of Aerith’s developing relationship with Cloud. That being said, I found her a lot more sympathetic and likable in the remake and loved her fast friendship with Aerith too! Square Enix did a great job updating Tifa as a character and showing women supporting women. Plus, playing as Tifa in the remake was super fun–she’s so fast and strong!

12. What gaming systems do you own?

SNES, Gamecube, DS Lite, Nintendo Switch, PSP, PS 2, 3, 4 and PS Vita.

13. What was your first game system?

The NES is the first system I ever played on, but technically it was my dad’s. Yes, I’m old.

14. What’s your favorite gaming system and why?

Right now, I really like the Nintendo Switch, even though I’m not big on handhelds. I feel like it’s more dedicated to single player story experiences. I do find not having trophies on that system bittersweet–I love getting trophies and feeling accomplished–but not having them makes it easier to focus on the enjoyment of the game.

15. Do you prefer to play male characters or female characters?

I literally choose female characters whenever possible! (I only played as male Byleth to romance my beloved Edelgard).

16. Do you follow walkthroughs, or do you play through on your own?

I follow walkthroughs or trophy guides pretty often because I am always afraid I’m missing something important. In the past, I bought a lot of physical guides because who doesn’t love all the pretty pictures of the game on top of helpful information?

17. Have you ever been to a gaming convention?

No, I have not, sadly. I love to watch E3 at home though.

18. What game are you most excited to come out in the future?

Specifically, I’m super excited for Horizon Forbidden WestBreath of the Wild 2, and Tales of Arise! I’m also very excited any future Persona, Fire Emblem, or Elder Scrolls titles, which probably goes without saying. Heck, I’ll even take Skyrim on the PS5.

19. What’s your best memory of a video game?

White Knight Chronicles because not only was it (and it’s sequel) a really fun game, but I also met my long time boyfriend, @AzureWolfXlll , on that game. He is also the artist behind my drawings.  Overwatch was also an amazing experience, because I met my amazingly talented and wonderful best friend @TouchofGeekery on there!

20. What’s your worst memory of a video game?

On the PS2 version of Okami, I could absolutely not beat Mr. Orange’s dance. It was a huge bummer as I really loved the game, and could not get past it (and had to rewatch a ton of cutscenes every time I tried again). Thankfully, I’ve since beaten that dance on the remastered version for the PS4!

21. Which video game character do you see yourself as, or if you had to be represented by a video game character, who would it be?

I’m going to use Persona characters as I’ve just finished the game and it’s fresh in my mind. I’m actually a lot like a mix between Futaba and Makoto from Persona 5/Persona 5 Royal.  Like Futaba, I’m socially awkward, quirky, love all things geeky, sleep for days at a time, and am a fierce introvert and home body. Like Makoto, I was a very serious student in school, have a temper and an older sister, am easily frightened by the supernatural, and have a penchant for things with spikes on them.  Sadly, I definitely don’t have Futaba’s hacking abilities or Makoto’s martial arts abilities.

I would love for anyone who wants to do this tag to participate! I look forward to reading everyone’s answers.
